Management of the refugee crisis in the Middle East countries.

On 1st June Network PL Association organised in the European Commission's building in Brussels a seminar titled:

'Management of the refugee crisis in the Middle East countries. Case study of the Al-Zaatari refugee camp for Syrian refugees in Mafraq, Jordan. Reality on the spot and challenges ahead'

The seminar has been aimed at setting the light on the refugee protection strategies deployed by the countries in the Syrian neighbourhood in cooperation with the national governments and  international actors, the UNHCR, the EU and a variety of the UN-family and Civil Society Organisations.

Participants have also received an insight view on the situation in the field. By the means of a case study of the Al-Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees in Mafraq, Northern Jordan, Małgorzata Pitura outlined the main features of the camp, the opportunities it gives to the refugees as well as the flaws and challenges ahead, both for the welcoming country and the international community.

She also presented European Union initiatives, such as the so called EU Trust Fund for the Management of the Syrian Crisis 'the Madad Fund' established for EU's active participation in the humanitarian help destined to Syria's neighbouring countries welcoming the refugees.

Malgorzata Anna Pitura – graduted from a MA in International Relations at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland, and from a postgraduate master's in Human Rights Law from the University Saint-Louis in Brussels. She has been living and working for the EU affairs in Brussels since 2010 where she first worked as a trainee at the European Parliament (cabinet of the MEP Andrzej Grzyb), then as an assistant at the Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU and since April 2013 she has been working at the European Commission, Directorate –General for Digital Single Market, where she deals with grant management for the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) ICT projects.
Her passions include travelling and politics, especially in the Middle East region, learning Arabic and deliberating on the solutions to the ongoing refugee crisis caused by the Syrian war and means to ensure better protection of the refugees, both in Europe and in the countries neighbouring Syria and Iraq that are currently welcoming an overwhelming majority of them.
